Nairobi, (Idil News) – A cargo plane with four to five crew members on board crashed late Saturday in the Ceel Xabaaloow settlement, located in the Lower Shabelle region of South West State which approximately 13 kilometers south of Mogadishu, Somalia, according to a local source.
The aircraft, identified as a DHC-5 with registration 5Y-RPA, was en route from Dhobley town in the Lower Juba region of Jubaland State to Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, when the incident occurred. Earlier reports indicate the plane experienced technical difficulties in Dhobley on Saturday, though a local source claimed the issues had been resolved prior to departure.
An emergency response team has reached the crash site near Ceel Xabaalbow, and further details are expected once the team completes its initial assessment. The crew, numbering either four or five, are all believed to be Kenyan nationals, though exact figures remain unconfirmed.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, and Federal government and South West State have not released additional information at this time. This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more details emerge.
