Day 15: Puntland Forces Resume Their Offensive Against ISIS in Al-Miskad Mountains

Bosaso, (Idil News) – Puntland’s armed forces, PDF, PMPF and led by their Counterterrorism Unit, have resumed their campaign against ISIS militants entrenched in the Al-Miskad Mountains. According to Puntland security officials, the troops are currently engaging a substantial cave complex used by the terrorists as a base of operations.

On Tuesday alone, Puntland forces intercepted and downed 12 drones deployed by ISIS operatives. Additionally, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the militants were detected and safely detonated, averting potential casualties.

On Monday, Tog  Jacayl battled the militant casualties, increasing the number. Thirty ISIS militants are confirmed killed, including an Ethiopian female combatant and two soldiers, and three others were injured after the heavy fighting became more intense.

This offensive is part of a larger campaign named “Hillaac” (Blitz), which has reportedly dealt significant blows to ISIS. Recent operations under this initiative have included the capture of key logistical hubs such as the Lugule Valley. Intense battles have seen Puntland forces face off against sophisticated tactics, including IEDs and kamikaze drones, playing up the group’s evolving methods of warfare.

Despite the complexity of the operation, Puntland security officials proclaim their commitment to eradicating terrorism from their territory. This campaign is being conducted independently, without support from the Somali Federal Government or international partners.
