Four explosions rocked Sweden in one night

Four explosions rocked cities in Sweden within an hour, police said, as the country grapples with a rise in gang-related violence.

Around 1:00 am, Gothenburg police received reports of two explosions in two different houses, 10 minutes apart.

“Both locations have been closed and investigations are underway,” said the police, adding that bomb experts were called to the scene.

“There are no reports of injured people, only damaged equipment,” said the police.

An hour later, two explosions happened minutes apart in the city of Norsborg, on the southern outskirts of Stockholm, and the city of Nykoping, 100 km south of the capital.

In both cases, police said no one was hurt. All four explosions took place in residential buildings.

Sweden has struggled in recent years to crack down on shootings and bombings, with gangs waging a drug-trafficking war.

However, Gothenburg police told AFP that the cause of two explosions in the city has not yet been determined.

In 2022, there were 90 explosions in Sweden, and 101 cases of attempted or planned explosions, according to police data.

This year until August 15, 109 explosions were recorded.

The police have already said that the bombs are mostly used to intimidate the targets, while the shootings are used to kill and eliminate the enemy.

The country recorded 391 shootings in 2022, of which 62 were fatal died, which is 45 percent higher than the year before, according to police data.
