The Puntland government is engaging with the international community.
Today, Mr. Said Abdullahi Deni, the President of the Puntland Government, hosted a group from the United Nations at the Presidential Palace.
The delegation was led by Catriona Laing, the United Nations envoy to Somalia. Following the recent decision made by the Cabinet of Ministers, the Puntland Government has declared itself an independent state.
It will now engage with the international world as a separate country, distinct from South Somalia. President Deni has informed the official UN ambassador to Somalia about Puntland’s decision.
The United Nations and Puntland government agencies had discussions regarding the development infrastructure and humanitarian programmes, with a focus on expediting direct cooperation.
