Puntland Executes 10 Al-Shabaab Militants in Galkayo Following Court Verdict

Galkayo, Puntland — The Puntland government has executed 10 members of Al-Shabaab who were found guilty of committing murders and providing secret services to the terrorist organization.

The Puntland Custodial Corps confirmed on Saturday that the 10 individuals were executed following a court verdict that found them responsible for planning and carrying out murders of government officials, including those working for Puntland ministers, over a span of 10 years in the city of Galkayo, the capital of the Mudug region. President Said Abdullahi Deni signed the decree authorizing the executions.

Puntland authorities are also actively searching for three remaining Al-Shabaab members who recently escaped from Galkayo Central Prison, offering a reward for information leading to their capture.

This recent incident follows a previous escape from Galkayo Central Prison.

The execution of these 10 terrorists was carried out simultaneously with the execution of 10 others in Galkayo, bringing the total number of terrorists executed in the Mudug region to 33.

This decisive action serves as a strong deterrent to terrorists and their collaborators, instills confidence within the community, and delivers justice to the victims of Al-Shabaab’s aggression.

The Federal Government based in Mogadishu has faced criticism for allegedly encouraging terrorist activities. In contrast, Puntland is reputed for implementing stringent measures including executing individuals involved in terrorism. The Puntland government expresses its gratitude for the swift response to the community’s demands in the Mudug region, which included this action as one of the 12 key points presented to President Said Deni.
