Puntland Minister Chairs High-Level Meeting with UNDP on Development Cooperation

Garowe, (Idl News) – Puntland’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Daud Mohamed Omar, chaired a meeting with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officials in Garowe on 26 January 2025.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Puntland government and the UN agency to advance key development initiatives.  

Lionel Laurens, the head of UNDP’s Somalia office, led the delegation in talks that centered on priority projects aligned with Puntland’s development agenda. The meeting emphasized efforts to facilitate ongoing and future initiatives aimed at economic growth and infrastructure development.  

Minister Omar highlighted the Puntland Development Plan for 2024-2029 (PDP⁴), which is being spearheaded by the ministry to drive sustainable progress in the region. The plan outlines strategic goals across various sectors, including governance, economic development, and social services.  

The discussions come as Puntland seeks to deepen partnerships with international agencies to bolster economic resilience and service delivery amid Somalia’s broader development challenges.
