Russia attacked a Turkish ship

Turkey has warned Moscow to avoid another crisis after a Turkish cargo ship was attacked by the Russian navy last week, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s office said on Thursday.

“After the (Russian) intervention, the people who contacted us from Russia were warned to stay away from such an attempt, which worsens the tension in the Black Sea,” said the Turkish Presidency, after days of silence on this incident.

The Sukru Okan has the Palau flag when it opened fire on the Russian navy last Sunday.

The Russian military then boarded the ship to investigate, before allowing it to sail to the Ukrainian port of Izmail, which is the country’s largest agricultural exporter.

The incident comes amid an increase in attacks in the Black Sea, after Russia withdrew from the Ukrainian wheat treaty last month.
