Somalia’s govt denies reports of prisoners held in Mogadishu past their jail terms

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government denied comments by the custodial corps chief that there are prisoners held in Mogadishu after their jail terms have ended, Caasimada Online news website reported on Wednesday.

Somali Minister of Justice Hassan Moalim accompanied by the Prosecutor-General Suleman Mohamed inspected inmates in Mogadishu’s central jail, days after the custodial corps chief Mahad Abdirahman alleged injustice in the prison, saying some of the inmates have been held for years after ending their terms.

In response to the comments, Somali Minister of Justice said several prisoners were held for a few days past their terms and would be released soon.
