Somalia:Turkish Airport Manager in Mogadishu Arrested on Charges of Sexual Harassment and Abuse of Power

Somali authorities have arrested a Turkish national, Ertugrul Karafiyeli, a senior manager at Favori LLC, the company responsible for managing Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport, on charges of sexual harassment and abuse of power.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the Somali Attorney General’s Office, which accused Karafiyeli of misconduct including intimidation, abuse of authority, and indecent behavior toward Somali employees.

The case has garnered significant attention after local media, including Idil News, accessed footage allegedly showing Karafiyeli making sexual advances toward a female employee in his office. Reports indicate that legal proceedings had already commenced in Mogadishu court a week before his arrest.

Favori LLC, a Turkish firm managing Mogadishu’s busiest airport has not commented on the arrest.
