Sudan’s army announced on Tuesday that it had gained control of the state broadcast headquarters in Omdurman from the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF), marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict between the two factions. The capture of the broadcast building, situated in Omdurman across the River Nile from #Khartoum, comes after months of heavy fighting around military installations, bridges, and supply routes in the area.
Despite a recent call by the United Nations Security Council for a ceasefire during the holy month of #Ramadan , battles have persisted, with the RSF welcoming the truce while the army’s senior general rejected it. However, the army has managed to make some gains in Omdurman, leveraging air power and heavy artillery against the RSF’s infantry advantage.
The army’s control over the state broadcast building extends its influence into “old Omdurman,” although the RSF still holds sway over southern and western areas of the city. Witnesses report the army deploying drones in Omdurman to regain territory, though there has been no immediate response from the RSF.
