Garowe, (IDNE, News Desk) — The Puntland Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has released the results of the 2024 8th-grade examinations, showcasing remarkable achievements among the top-performing students.
Top Performers
The results highlight the academic excellence of the top ten students across the all regions from Puntland.
Leading the cohort is Ibrahim Said Osman from Daarul Birri, Bosaso, Bari region, with an impressive score of 96.57%. Following closely are Abdiqani Ahmed Omar from Dr. Ahmed Haji Abidrahman, Galkacyo, Mudug region, with 96%, and Nashad Mohamoud Ali from Bright, Badhan, Sanaag, with 95.57%.
Other top performers include:
– Abdihakim Ahmed Ali from Midnimo, Bursalah, Mudug (95.29%)
– Kayse Mustafe Ainab from Sallahudiin, Badhan, Sanaag (95%)
– Aisha Eise Mohamed from Daarul Birri, Bosaso, Bari (94.71%)
– Qabul Salad Ismail from Nawawi Furqan, Bosaso, Bari (94.43%)
– Mohamed Adan Mohamoud from Ayaaha, Bosaso, Bari (94.43%)
– Abdullahi Abdirahmaan Ahmed from Midnimo, Bursalah, Mudug (94.43%)
– Mumtas Farah Mire from Daarul Quran, Bosaso, Bari (94.29%)
Overall Performance
The overall performance data reveals that a total of 13,303 students sat for the examinations. Out of these, 13,303 students passed, representing a pass rate of 51.2% for boys and 42.3% for girls. The failure rates stood at 3% for boys and 2% for girls, with a total of 716 students failing the exams. Additionally, 217 students were absent, comprising 117 boys and 100 girls.
Subject-wise Analysis
A breakdown of average scores across subjects indicates that students performed best in the Somali language, with an average score of 71.9%. Computer Studies and Science followed with 62.5% and 61.7%, respectively. However, scores were significantly lower in English and Mathematics, averaging 42.4% and 41.7%.

– Somali Language: 71.9%
– Computer Studies: 62.5%
– Science: 61.7%
– Social Studies: 61.1%
– Tarbiyah (Islamic Studies): 56.3%
– Arabic: 47.2%
– English: 42.4%
– Mathematics: 41.7%
